The City of Memphis has always been known as a creative environment that encourages artistic expression and that reputation still holds true today.

The City of Memphis signed a Management and Renovation agreement with Friends of Levitt in November 2006 and committed $500,000 in matching expenditures to fund the renovation. The City also provides additional support by maintaining the Shell, its environs, and the surrounding Overton Park.
